Registration:


Your registration fee allows you to practise as a nurse or midwife inWestern Australia, and also protects your status as a nurse or midwife. As a nurse or midwife registered with the Board you are entitled to seek professional advice from Board personnel and have access to publications relating to nursing and midwifery practice.

 

 

Effect of Registration:


Subject to the Nurses and Midwives Act 2006, registration in Western Australia entitles the person registered the right to carry on in the State, the practice of nursing or midwifery under the following titles:-

  1. enrolled nurse;
  2. midwife;
  3. nurse practitioner; and
  4. registered nurse.

 

How your registration fees are used:

  • Assessing and processing applications;
  • Assessing nursing and midwifery programs for accreditation to allow students who graduate to register/enrol in Western Australia;
  • Development of education programs offered by the Board;
  • Development of publications relating to nursing and midwifery practice;
  • Establishing assessment panels, reference groups, committees and forums;
  • Newsletters, policy and standards development, development of legislation;
  • Representation on national Nursing and Midwifery bodies and Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) membership;
  • Scholarships and Grants, and the celebration of nurses and midwives via the Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards;
  • Staff within the Board, furniture and equipment including the Board’s database, web site and Information technology (IT) requirements; and
  • Supervision and education for nurses and midwives who have a health issue or difficulty meeting competency standards.

Changes to Fees, Fee Structure and Application Processes for Registering with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia

With the Proclamation of the Nurses and Midwives Act 2006 (the Act), effective 19 September 2007, changes have been implemented to the fee structure when registering with the Board as stated below.

Under the Act an initial Application fee is now required when submitting an application to register with the Board which covers the assessment of the application and verification of all documentation. 
These fees are non-refundable.

In the event that an application is withdrawn or not accepted any further re-application to register with the Board must be accompanied by another application fee, as outlined above.

Once your application has been assessed and should you be eligible for registration with the Board an Initial Registration fee will apply as listed below.  Please note that this entitles you to be registered until the 31 December 2007, at which point you will need to renew your licence to practice in accordance with the Act.
