Demonstration of Continuing Professional Competence
Nurses and midwives are required to keep abreast of new knowledge and developments in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing healthcare environment. This ensures that all nurses and midwives are committed to continuous learning and ongoing evaluation of practice standards.
As the authority responsible for regulating nursing and midwifery in this State, the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia (NMBWA) is legally required to ensure nurses and midwives maintain their competence to practice.
Standards adopted by the NMBWA are in accordance with the requirements endorsed by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC). A national framework for the demonstration of continuing competence for nurses and midwives is currently being developed by the ANMC.
