Registration and Competence Advisory Committee

The Registration and Competence Advisory Committee advises NMBWA on matters relating to the registration of nurses and midwives in accordance with the Nurses and Midwives Act 2006.

In supporting NMBWA to meet its regulatory responsibilities, the Registration and Competence Advisory Committee:

  • advises and makes recommendations to NMBWA on all applications for registration or restoration of name to the register which do not comply with Registration Policy (eg. declare affirmative to any question in Section 3 Capacity to Practice as a Nurse and /or Midwife)
  • considers and advises NMBWA on misdemeanours under Section 85 of the Act (persons who have been registered as nurses or midwives, and have practiced without registration, and employees of such nurses or midwives
  • Identifies risk management issues including continuing competence relating to registration that could adversely impact on NMBWA.

Experts as required, as ex-officio members, may be invited from the Network Advisory Panel to facilitate committee business. The Registration and Competence Advisory Committee Terms of Reference are available below.
